Synaptics?first talked to us about the?“Fuse” touchphone concept?in December last year, and a month on has now got a working proof of concept to show off at CES in Las Vegas.

We were in the right room at the right time to have a play.

The new concept device uses force and capacitive touch sensors embedded in the Fuse’s edges allowing you to grip and stroke your way through applications.

Here, Synaptics demoed a system that allows the squeezing of the phone to produce more balls into the demo as well as allowing the user to change the colour and texture of the balls on the screen. Combined with the multitouch, accelerometer and a further sensor on the back of the device and you could say there are too many ways to interact with the Fuse.

The company is promising actual application uses for Mobile World Congress in February.?
