HP’s Zeen tablet gets Android 2.2 Froyo update, finally (video)
If you decided to throw good judgement out the window and buy an HP Photosmart eStation just for the tablet, let us start by saying we told you so. Now that we have that squared away, it looks like there could be hope for HP’s Android-powered slate yet — reports are starting to roll in of a long awaited Android 2.2 update for the Zeen. For months, owners of the tablet have filled HP customer service forums with complaints about the promised, but never delivered update, but as you can see from the video below, Zeen owners can now download a beta version of Froyo complete with Flash-compatibility, and from what we’ve heard, it’s a huge improvement. If you must see it for yourself, check out the video after the break, but let us issue yet another warning: the audio in this video will creep you out.
[Thanks, Zac]

HTC Aria sees Android 2.2 update — in Southeast Asia that is
The HTC Aria has had a bit of a rough life on AT&T and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better yet despite HTC now rolling out an official Android 2.2 for it in South East Asia. No sign of when (or if) AT&T plans on allowing HTC to roll it out for those of you making use of the device on AT&T but you could always hit up the leaked Sense 2.2 ROM. [Engadget via HTC]

HTC: European Desire getting Froyo OTA update this weekend
And thus, it begins. Engadget has official word from HTC that unlocked European Desires will be getting an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 2.2 ("Froyo") this weekend. This comes hot off the heels of Sprint announcing that the Evo will see Froyo early next week, so it surely looks like HTC has gotten Sense working just fine on their current line of high-end phones. Users should be automatically notified that there is an update available.
HTC is going all out, promising several features not in stock 2.2:
- 720p video recording
- iTunes syncing via HTC’s Sync software (what?!?)
- The "AppShare" widget that came on the Wildfire
- Smart CallerID
In addition, HTC is saying that users with carrier-locked Desires will see the update in "several weeks’ time." Just as a friendly reminder, they also told users that the update will not delete any existing user data, which is always a great thing.
It looks like there is going to be a ton of 2.2 update news coming in the next few weeks for HTC phones, so if you aren’t a Desire or Evo owner, keep your eyes peeled. [Engadget]

The officially unofficial Android 2.2 upgrade list
One of the questions we hear on Twitter and through the contact page most often is "will my phone get Froyo?" I can’t blame anyone for asking, or for wanting it, cause all the changes are oh so nice. Our standard answer has always been what we can confirm with the manufacturers, which to be fair and honest, isn’t much yet. Trust me, we bug them because we’re Android fanatics and want to know just as much as you all do
Thankfully, there’s always speculation and rumors to tide us over until we get word (or even better, see that update available screen). We talk about it on the Podcast. We talk about it with each other via e-mail. We talk about it in the forums. We want it. When a reader sent in a tip that PC World has compiled a list of phones and their upgrade to Froyo status, it got our attention. We can’t vouch for anything on the list, so insert a grain of salt the size of a beach ball, follow the break and check it out. [with a tip of the hat to PC World] Thanks lastdetailwd!

Android 2.2, FroYo, Google I/O — let’s make some sense of all this
FroYo, FroYo, FroYo. Seems like you can’t visit a tech blog or read your Twitter timeline without seeing news about Android 2.2 everywhere. FroYo can do this, FroYo does this 300 percent faster, FroYo has ponies. It’s enough to make a sane man crazy (good thing none of us will have to worry about that). We all want some delicious new Android treats for our phones, but do we really know why, or what comes along with it? Hopefully, by the time we’re finished here you’ll have a better idea just what to expect, and when to expect it. Hit the link, get your spoon, and let’s check out what this frozen concoction has in store for you and I.
