Angry Birds Rio coming in March
Angry Birds Rio, a combination of what’s surely the most popular mobile game of all time with an upcoming Hollywood animated feature, is said to be hitting "app stores everywhere" in March 2011, just in time to play on your Motorola Xoom. Based on the game trailer (you can see it after the break) it looks like our feathered friends have made their way to Brazil, and have some sort of wildlife exploiting Cockatoo to battle it out with this go ’round. Not much to go on, other than 20th Century Fox backing the project and tie-ins with their new animated feature Rio due in April 2011. We’ll know more in six weeks or so.
In the meantime, watch the trailer and speculate like the rest of us! [@RovioMobile]

EA releases Worms for Android
EA Games has released its classic turn-based blaster Worms on the Android Market. The publisher says that Worms’ graphics and animations have been optimized for the Android platform, and our initial impressions of the game are that it seems to be up there with recent Worms console titles in terms of graphical fidelity.
Worms for Android offers a host of game modes from previous Worms games including puzzle, racing and banzai. The characteristic voice acting that fans of the series will recognize is also present and correct.
A QR code for the North American version can be found after the jump. European readers can find it by searching for "Worms" in the Android Market.

Android Quick App: Galaxy NGC3D [contest]
Combining great graphics, an ominous soundtrack, and challenging game-play, Galaxy NGC3D is a great new game on the Android Market. The premise is simple — man your fighter, and destroy them before they destroy you, but if you’re looking for a cakewalk look elsewhere. You need a bit of skill (or practice) to pilot your ship through space, and the physics and drifting in a zero gravity environment seem as realistic as can be, at least to an earthling like myself. After a few frustrating hours playing, I got some serious satisfaction from flying in, putting an enemy in my sights, and blasting them into space dust. And to make it even better, it’s one of the eleven new Open Feint games, so you can share progress and scores with your gaming buddies.
The game has a full plate full of settings, both the normal things like music volume as well as advanced settings for the on-screen graphics. The app seems coded pretty well, on my Evo 4G it can handle things set pretty high, and the Nexus S runs it great with everything cranked up to the max. There’s also a little bonus — it’s set up for use with a Zeemote controller, which should work really well with this one. Speaking of bonuses — Hyperbees (check out their developers forum right here) has set up their own contest in the Android Central forums, where ten winners will be able to grab a free copy of Galaxy NGC3D, and one lucky winner will be sporting their own Zeemote controller to play the heck out of this one, and many other games. High-tail it into the forums and try your luck, the contest ends Friday, Dec 31 at noon Eastern.
You can grab the full version of Galaxy NGC3D on sale until the contest ends tomorrow at noon on the market for a 99 cents, and there’s a link to the free trial (thanks for that developers!), a gameplay video, and a handful of screenshots after the break — check em out. Thanks Monika, Tom, and all the folks at Hyperbees!

Concrete Software announces the release of Aces Jewel Hunt for Android
I’ve always been a fan of classic jewel swapping games. Yes, before Angry Birds I was addicted to Bejeweled and every other "bejeweled like" game. Over time though, you want more out of the simple jewel swapping games and want something added to them. This is where Concrete Software comes in. They’ve just announced that their popular Aces Jewel Hunt series is now available for Android devices in both paid and free versions.
Rather than just giving you the basics, Aces Jewel Hunt brings some cool extras like optional in-game tutorials, multiple difficulty levels, and three different game types – classic, timed, and quick challenge. As well, adds online leaderboards and advanced stats tracking. If you enjoy games like this, be sure to check them out. Download link can be found after the break.

Rovio confirms Christmas edition of Angry Birds is on the way
The Twitter account for Rovio has been rather busy the past few days. OK, that’s not true. They’re actually busy every day, but even more so now that they’ve made mention of just how many Android users have downloaded Angry Birds (More than 7 million, in case you were wondering) but today’s news is even more awesome.
Rovio has confirmed after some images appeared online that they are indeed planning on a Christmas edition of Angry Birds for release. When asked about Android getting stuff for Christmas and they advised that Android would indeed get in on some of the action as well. Angry Birds day is on Dec. 11, and a new release would fit in nicely for that day don’t you all think – or maybe sooner? [Ylex via @Roviomobile]

Open Feint enabled games hit top download spots in just 72 hours; more coming
When OpenFeint announced it was going cross platform last month, everyone figured it would have an effect on the state of gaming in the Android Market. But I don’t think anyone could have guess just how much. Within 72 hours of launch, both the number one and number two spot for the most downloaded paid games were using OpenFeint. Of course we’re talking about Fruit Ninja and Mini Squadron, both of which are made better (and more engaging) with the addition of multiplayer through OpenFeint.
It doesn’t stop there. Out of the eight games incorporating OpenFeint, four of them are top 15 sellers, and the addition of Android games to the OpenFeint system brings the number of total users to over 40 million, making it the largest mobile social gaming network in the world. I’ve bought (and wasted countless hours playing) a few Open Feint enabled games, and can understand the attraction. And to follow up all this success, OpenFeint has announced a new batch of 12 titles they’re bringing to Android, including titles from Glu, PikPok and ChickenBrick Studios. While my credit card and battery may not be very happy, I can’t wait. Read the full press release after the break.

Android Quick App: MiniSquadron
Like action shooters? Secretly jealous that Android doesn’t seem to have the "best" ones? Then you’ll love MiniSquadron, another iOS favorite that’s made it’s way to Android. To make things even better, it’s another game that uses open feint for multiplayer connectivity. But wait for it — it’s also on sale for just 99 cents until Sept. 19, when it goes back to $2.99. We’ve got a video and download links after the break, check it out.
