Android overtakes iPhone in total mobile U.S. user numbers as of November
Think back to November 2009 for a moment: the HTC Hero was the best you could buy on Sprint, the Motorola DROID was shouting "Droid Does" from every direction, and the Nexus One was not even a rumor. Flash forward back to November 2010 and analytics company comScore is reporting that Android has surpassed the iPhone in total active mobile users in the United States. Their numbers show Android at 26 percent marketshare, just edging out the iPhone at 25 percent. RIM’s Blackberry is still the market leader at 33.5 percent, but they have lost 4 percentage points since the August numbers were released. Since then, Android gained 6 percentage points and iOS gained just under 1 point.
Considering the ever-increasing sales numbers for Android phones– 300,000 per day at last check in early December — it is almost certain that Google’s OS will become the sole market leader in the U.S. at some point this year. Just try to not rub it in your iPhone-using friends’ faces too much, OK? Just throw a couple more widgets on your homescreen and get back to following our CES coverage. [comScore via TechCrunch]

Samsung Captivate vs. iPhone 4
I know everyone and their cousin gets tired of the iPhone vs. Android fanboy slugfest, but that’s not what we’re about this time. Allyson, one of our pals over at TiPb, took some time to compare the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate against her iPhone 4. Frankly, it’s a refreshing break from the Mobile OS wars. She makes plenty of good points, talks about the faults on both sides, and turned out something that was a great read.
I agree with a lot of her commentary, disagree with some, but can’t take serious issue with any of it. Go have a look before the internet is completely taken over by Cupertino death grip videos.

iPhone 4 vs. HTC Evo 4G [NSFW-L]
Warning — This is full of potty language and may well offend you. And it’s funny as hell, and quite probably true. Using the online tools from xtranormal, Youtube user tinywatchproductions gives us a special treat. It’s all in good fun, and a nice break from the usual bickering and feuding between iPhone users and Android users that we all secretly enjoy. Hit the break to check out the video.

Samsung says its Super AMOLED is better than any ‘retina display’
Samsung makes all sorts of electronics (including some nice Android phones), but their name is synonymous with screen technology. That being said, anytime they chime in about screens or displays, we tend to listen.
"Structurally, IPS LCD technology cannot catch up with AMOLED display technology."
That’s what Samsung has to say in response to Apple’s claim that their new IPS screen is superior to OLED. Samsung claims that IPS only offers a 3 percent to 5 percent increase in sharpness, at a cost of 30 percent more power use. They (Samsung) also claim that the Super AMOLED display on the upcoming Galaxy S will offer better viewing angles and contrast than the upcoming iPhone.
We would love to find out for ourselves, but we still don’t have a Galaxy S to play with review. Samsung, toss us a bone so we can help prove your point! [Korea Herald via Electronista]

iPhone Review — Smartphone Round Robin
Ah, the iPhone. For better or worse, the iPhone has become the starting point for many consumers looking to buy a smartphone. In a sense, it’s become the standard for everyone to measure themselves against. Because of its position at the forefront of consumer’s minds and the fact that it’s in everyone’s pocket, that’s completely fair. But because of Apple’s sometimes senseless decisions in dealing with all things iPhone, it leaves the rest of us a little uneasy.
Regardless, the iPhone is undoubtedly a cultural phenomenon and has been ever since it was released in 2007. Apple kicked down the door with the original iPhone, upped the ante with the iPhone 3G, and is continuing to count each and every dollar with the iPhone 3GS. To call it anything but successful is to not give it fair credit; the momentum it continues to hold is simply amazing.
So yes, the iPhone is ridiculously successful but don’t think it’s all peaches, ponies, and paradise–the iPhone platform is far from perfect. There are issues and shortcomings with the iPhone. Oh yes there are. We’ll take a look at everything in the full review below!
