Motorola adds a bunch of phones to its Android 2.1 update list
Motorola just added a slew of new non-U.S. phones to its Android 2.1 update list (see the previous update), including a bunch of Backflips and Quenches. Doesn’t really give us a better idea of when the new software will actually be available, but it’s good to see Moto at least trying to be transparent about it. That said, it’d be great if we’d see some Android 2.2 update schedules popping up, m’kay? [Motorola] Thanks, Jake!

Rom developers get stock Android 2.1 on the Motorola Cliq
Motorola Cliq owners, you haven’t been forgotten. A group of developers has cooked up some Eclair love for you. In what sounds like a herculean effort travisjames, along with fellow developer barakinflorida have taken otabbb‘s work with building AOSP (Android Open Source Project) for the Cliq and turned it into a functional ROM. It’s not 100 percent complete, but the latest Alpha build looks pretty promising. I asked for some info from travisjames and he was happy to reply:
Eclair2CLIQ is a ROM that was started after ModMyMoto (now ModMyMobile) user otabbb, figured out how to build Android 2.1 from source for the CLIQ and posted what he had created for other developers to build off of and "for someone who wants this like a starting point to make a great 2.1 Cliq ROM."
So, I decided to take it on and within the first few days, fixed half of the problems the ROM currently had including, WiFi, GPS, etc, included some applications from Cyanogen’s 2.1 build, and released it as Alpha1.
Now, coming up to Alpha3, which is completely build from source and should be released soon, me, along with fellow developer barakinflorida, have managed to fix Data, Vibration, and a few of the more "essential" parts of having a daily driver.
If you’re using a Cliq or a Dext, hit the source link to follow the development. A few more screenshots are after the jump. [ModMyMobile] Thanks Chisle41!

Where Motorola stands on Android 2.1 updates
Loyal reader Tom Cochrane reminded us on Twitter that Motorola has a status board for its Android 2.1 roll-out. And above is where we stand as of today. If you’re rocking the Milestone, updates are either in progress or should be coming in the few months or so. Same goes in the U.S. for the Backflip, Cliq and Cliq XT. Hang in there, folks. [Motorola] (And thanks, Tom.)
Motoblur invades Canada on the Dext, Quench and Backflip
If you’re in Canada and have had a serious hankering for Motoblur (and it’s OK to admit it if you have), fret not, as a trio of Motorola phones are bringing some serious social networking integration your way.
First there’s the Quench, which we know here in the States as Cliq XT (or previously the Zeppelin). Then there’s the Dext, which is the version of the Quench with a horizontal sliding keyboard that we know simply as the Cliq. And then there’s the Backflip, with its crazy fold-under (or is it over?) keyboard and rear-facing trackpad.
It’s all coming your way in the next three months or so. Stay tuned. [Motorola]
