DoubleTwist upgrade features AirPlay support for more Apple / Android miscegenation
Add another notch to DoubleTwist’s Apple ecosystem integration belt, now that its Android app has added AirPlay streaming to the list of features. As of version 1.4 it will stream music, videos or pictures to the Apple TV or other compatible devices while also claiming beta support for Sonos hardware. The DoubleTwist player is free, but using AirPlay means purchasing the $4.99 AirSync add-on that also enables wireless sync with your media library (iTunes) and streaming to DLNA or uPnP compatible devices. Twonky Mobile is a free alternative that’s also AirPlay-compatible but without the tight iTunes integration; you can check them both out in the market.

DoubleTwist update brings WiFi syncing with paid ‘AirSync’ add-on
DoubleTwist has just been updated with the long-promised and highly-anticipated wifi syncing feature, which has been dubbed "AirSync." Unlike the player itself, which is free, AirSync is an add-on that will run you $4.99 (or 99 cents for the first 10,000 users), you will see a link to purchase it when you start up the updated DoubleTwist Android player. In addition to the phone app, users will need to make sure to update their desktop client, which is available for the Mac and PC.
If you jump on the DoubleTwist wagon, make sure you visit the Android Central Forums to discuss the new update. If you haven’t used the program (or any syncing app), check out our handy guide to syncing music onto your Android phone. [DoubleTwist]

How-To: Sync music and videos from your computer (aka iTunes)
Lets face it: syncing your music and videos in Android is nowhere near as simple as with certain "i"-named devices. However, many of you (myself included) may use iTunes to manage and purchase your music and podcasts. There are a couple great solutions to get your media from your computer to your phone with playlists intact. Keep in mind that any DRMed music will not work on your Android phone. Apple switched over to DRM-free music awhile back, so it is likely only much older songs will have that issue. There are some ways to remove DRM from song files, but I will not go into it here (feel free to Google search for a way to do it, though). Join me past the break for all the hot syncin’ action.

DoubleTwist updated, now with internet radio and playlist editing
The folks behind DoubleTwist promised that support for internet radio was coming, and here it is. You can browse every genere imaginable, and each major genere has a bunch of sub-generes so you can zero in on exactly what kind of music you are in the mood for. The playlist editing features are a nice bonus, especially for those who aren’t already syncing playlists from iTunes using the DoubleTwist desktop client. The only drawback is that I could not figure out how to create a new playlist directly on the phone, but hopefully this is an issue that will be solved in a future update. Until then, check out download links past the break along with a few more pictures. [DoubleTwist, Changelog]

DoubleTwist announces a bevy of new and upcoming features
DoubleTwist, the popular desktop syncing client and elegant phone music player app, has announced a plethora of fantastic stats, immediate updates and future plans for its software. First off, its mobile and desktop (Mac and PC) apps have been hugely successful as they are set to hit 500,000 and 1 million users, respectively, in September. You may be wondering why that second number is so much higher; this is because DoubleTwist also allows syncing with devices like the PSP and both Windows Mobile and BlackBerry phones.
A completely new and revamped website is intended to become "the iTunes.com of Android" and will be adding support for Amazon’s MP3 Music Store "later in the fall" on top of its current podcast and Android app offerings. The site will also feature the ability to install apps to your phone directly from the website similar to AppBrain. In addition, users of the Mac and PC desktop clients get a new update that features faster syncing (finally!) and improved library management. To update, simply launch your DoubleTwist client and it should check automatically, or you can find the manual update button under File (Windows) or doubleTwist (Mac).
Finally, the Android app will be receiving a major update in September to allow use of FM Radio (if your phone already has this feature, one would assume) and the ability to sync over WiFi (!!!). [DoubleTwist]

Monday night mayhem: Comment at will!
So much for easing back into the work week, huh? We started off today with the announcement of the HTC Aria on AT&T. Followed that up by another Motorola Droid X sighting. You all got your knickers in a twist over doubleTwist (and many of you missed the phone — it’s about design, not function). And to top it all off, the Samsung Galaxy S Pro made an appearance.
Quite the Monday, indeed. Let’s wind down with a little free chat. Got something you wanna get off your chest? Do it here in the comments.

Why the doubleTwist Android app looks so good
It’s pretty much agreed upon that the new doubleTwist music app for Android is one of the better looking players on everybody’s favorite smartphone. But how did it come to be? Designer Sebastiaan de With explains on his Cocoia blog:
We wanted something that actually advanced the state of the art. I sure as hell wasn’t going to use an entirely new platform for months just to ape another. It was a mixed blessing to have so little limitations on what constituted a ‘native’ user interface.
Android has its guidelines, but most apps (even the Google-sanctioned Twitter app) have a very ‘custom’ appearance. We opted for a look that works well on the various devices and custom ‘shells’ (notably, HTC’s terrible “Sense” interface) and arrived at this muted, native-looking yet polished visual scheme
By no means is the doubleTwist app the only well-designed piece of software on Android, but it’s certainly a shining example of what can be done with a minimal set of guidelines, and no sticky concerns about duplication of functions. [Cocoia Blog] Thanks, Rene!

Android Quick App – doubleTwist player
There’s been a lot of chatter about doubleTwist the past few days. That will happen when you push out a desktop app and a on-device player to go along with it. I’ve spent the past couple days getting things ready for my HTC Evo, and setting up doubleTwist was one of them. Hit the break for the run down and see if doubleTwist is something that might work for you too.
