Droid Eris not getting Froyo

 HTC Droid Eris

Official word has come from Verizon that the Droid Eris will not be receiving an update to Android 2.2 ("Froyo"). Considering the device already hit end-of-life, this shouldn’t really surprise anyone. Luckily for you, the determined Eris user, there are ways to get Froyo onto your phone. Who needs official software these days, anyways? [ComputerWorld via IntoMobile]

Unrevoked 3.2 available, now works with Froyo [update: It's been pulled]

Unrevoked 3.2

The unrevoked team has announced that version 3.2 is now available for download, and support for Froyo has been added.  This brings the list of devices supported by the flashing tool to:

  • Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic)
  • Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
  • HTC Desire GSM
  • HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
  • HTC Aria
  • Droid Eris (HTC DesireC)
  • HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz)

In addition, users of the Sprint Evo 4G, Droid Incredible, and the CDMA Desire (US Cellular version) can now unlock their NAND and root using the tool.  People using other modern HTC devices not listed above are encouraged to contact the unrevoked team.  Be sure to read the directions carefully, and happy hacking! [unrevoked] Thanks Mike for the tip!

Update: The unlock tool has been temporarily pulled. Says the Unrevoked team: "We’re seeing some strange problems with Unrevoked 3.2, so we’ve pulled the release for a bit. Please hold on! Don’t worry if you’ve already run 3.2 – you are rooted and everything is OK. It’s just a problem for users while running it."

First Sprint with Moment and Hero 2.1, now Verizon with Droid Eris 2.1 Information

eris 2.1

Well, 2.1 rumors are just flying around these days like no other, but this time it seems like something a little more concrete then a rumor. Verizon appears to have update their site showing an update for the Droid Eris as "coming soon". For those who watched the Droid 2.1 update unfold, you will remember we saw this prior to the release as well. It appears as though the new ROM version (2.36.605.1/Radio: 2.42.00.04.12) is in line with the latest leak that many of you are probably running. Timeframe on the release is still unknown, but this looks like some more concrete evidence that the Droid Eris will indeed see Android 2.1. Check out the full document with some more information after the jump. [via Verizon]

HTC releases source code for Droid Incredible, Eris, Legend

HTC Droid Incredible Source Code

HTC late last week released its kernel for the Droid Incredible (along with the Eris and Legend) giving chefs another platform on which to cook customs ROMs. That said, we’re still waiting on the Incredible to be cracked open and rooted. And while HTC is required to release the kernel code, its proprietary code remains, well, proprietary, so we’re not getting a complete look under the hood. But it’s definitely a start. HTC Droid Eris $9.99 on Amazon with two-year contract

Amazon.com is now offering the HTC Droid Eris for the low price of $9.99. That’s not too shabby considering before the holidays Best Buy offered the same device for $49.99. Keep in mind to get the price of $9.99 a new two-year contract with Verizon is needed.

Perhaps this is a sign that there are a few new Verizon Android devices right around the corner?

Any takers?
