Gingerbread and Nexus S: It’s all going down in the Android Central Forums

Android 2.3 Gingerbread and the Samsung Nexus S? You guys are nearly blowing up our forums. We had to order extra hamsters and wheels. It’s nuts. It’s insane. And it’s freakin’ awesome. Here are but a few topics du jour:
- Win a Nexus S - First and foremost, we’re giving one away, shipping it anywhere in the continental United States. All you have to do is post in this thread.
- Gingerbread a yawner? Some of you are a bit disappointed. Was Gingerbread not all you thought it would be?
- Evo 4G owners waiting - But how long will they be waiting? Speculate here!
- Nexus One Gingerbread - The update’s coming in a few weeks. Here’s what you need to do to prepare if you’re rooted.
- What about the Droid X? When will it get Gingerbread?
- Nexus S versus the Nexus One – They’re both great, but which one wins?
- Nexus S has no microSD card? At least, not one that you can remove. What’s up with that?
- Nexus S with AT&T 3G? It’s T-Mobile only at first. Will we see an AT&T version?

An Android challenge to close out 2010

December’s here. Just one more month until this year wraps up and the next one begins. And when you stop and think about it, what a year it’s been. Started with the launch of Android 2.1 on the Nexus One and is ending with … Well, we don’t quite know, do we? Gingerbread’s coming. And, eventually, Honeycomb. We know of a smattering of new hardware waiting in the wings. Dual-core. More tablets. It’s gonna be busy, to say the least. And over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the highs and lows of 2010.

Gingerbread: What’s the holdup? [from the forums]
Android Central Forums member Hearthatvoiceagain asks the question that’s on everybody’s mind: Where is Gingerbread? Google CEO Eric Schmidt said Android 2.3 is coming in the next few weeks, but it’s been a month since the Gingerbread statue was dropped off at the Google Campus, and still we have no announcement. And that’s a break from tradition — Cupcake, Donut and Froyo were announced within a couple of week of their statues’ unveiling.
So what’s the holdup? Is Gingerbread just not ready? Is that rumored delay of the Nexus S true, and so we have to wait for Gingerbread? Or maybe everything is going according to Google’s plan?
And will Google unveil Gingerbread during a holiday week?
Join in on the discussion and let us know what you think.
What’s holding up Android 2.3. Gingerbread?

Sprint LG Optimus S unboxed, rooted

Before the Internet and YouTube, nobody had any interest in watching someone else open boxes. Now, it’s practically a rite of passage.
Our very own KSmithInNY scored the Sprint version of LG’s Optimus line, the Optimus S, two days ahead of launch. He was kind enough to post his initial thoughts and some unboxing photos on our forums.
But this is Android Central. Anyone can nab an early handset and snap some pictures; our readers root them the same day. Kevin rooted his Optimus S and created an excellent guide for everyone looking to pick one of these up on Sunday.
If you’re interested in reading about the newest member of Sprint’s Android family, head on over to our Optimus S Forums and check out his impressions. (Thanks Kevin!) [Android Central Forums]
