Samsung Galaxy Apollo headed to Europe ‘soon’

Samsung Galaxy Apollo

Looking a lot like the M100S, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo appears to be headed to Europe (at least the UK anyway) ‘soon’.  If it is the M100S, or a close copy, look for it to show up with Android 2.1, a 5 Megapixel camera, 3.7 inches of AMOLED screen, and 802.11n wireless ability.  Oh yeah, the Korean edition has that T-DMB TV tuner.  Would be interesting to see an Android phone with mobile TV appear in the West, but absolutely no word from Samsung on that — don’t hold your breath.  [Samsung UK via Engadget]

Samsung says its Super AMOLED is better than any ‘retina display’

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung makes all sorts of electronics (including some nice Android phones), but their name is synonymous with screen technology.  That being said, anytime they chime in about screens or displays, we tend to listen.

"Structurally, IPS LCD technology cannot catch up with AMOLED display technology."

That’s what Samsung has to say in response to Apple’s claim that their new IPS screen is superior to OLED.  Samsung claims that IPS only offers a 3 percent to 5 percent increase in sharpness, at a cost of 30 percent more power use.  They (Samsung) also claim that the Super AMOLED display on the upcoming Galaxy S will offer better viewing angles and contrast than the upcoming iPhone.

We would love to find out for ourselves, but we still don’t have a Galaxy S to play with review.  Samsung, toss us a bone so we can help prove your point! [Korea Herald via Electronista]

Samsung Galaxy Tab image leaked, looks fruity

Android tablets have been in the works for a while, and it’s always great to see evidence of that. Pictured here next to the awe-inspiring Galaxy S is Samsung’s newest Android creation – the Galaxy Tab. Although they both have a striking resemblance to certain other “half-eaten fruit” devices, we can assure you that what’s inside is totally different (and much more beautiful, I might add). There are reports that this 7-inch beauty will be running an LCD TFT screen over Samsung’s favored AMOLED, which isn’t surprising, given the size of the thing. We can also discern from the leaked image that there is a "phone" icon which insinuates 3G (or 4G) coverage may be available, and that it is also running the TouchWiz interface. Further details aren’t available yet, but more images are supposed to be available soon. [Samsung HubThanks everybody who sent this in!

Samsung Galaxy A caught on video

The just released Samsung Galaxy A just received an unboxing and video walkthrough, and if you’re into watching a seven minute video about a phone that’ll probably never ship to the US, in a language you don’t understand, well, by all means! All kidding aside though, the Samsung Galaxy A is actually quite impressive–the colors on the screen pop, the build quality looks good, and the transitions are rather snappy. There’s even a full-on antenna for mobile TV. Samsung is certainly upping their Android game with the Galaxy A and we hope the Galaxy S can extend that, while finding a way to the US. Samsung Galaxy S gets a commercial

Hey look, it’s a commercial for the Samsung Galaxy S! If the spot looks familiar to you, good job eagle eye, it’s basically a 30-second version of Samsung’s CTIA presentation for the Galaxy S. For those unfamiliar, it’s a neat, comic book-like interpretation of how an awesome phone influences your daily life. Familiar or not, just watch it! [via androidguys]

Samsung Galaxy S launching on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, & T-Mobile ?

Could the Samsung Galaxy S, brilliant screen and all, follow in the Nexus One’s footsteps and launch on all 4 major US Carriers? That’s what Forbes is reporting. According to Broadpoint.AmTech analyst Mark McKechnie the Galaxy S will be on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, & T-Mobile "sometime later this year". If true, that’s a huge move by Samsung because nearly all of US mobile phone subscribers will have a chance to use, and thus be wowed, by the Galaxy S.

Remember, the Galaxy S is a phone that is ridiculously fast and has the most beautiful of screens (if you need a reminder, check our hands-on). And though it’s as ‘flagship’ a device you can get, Samsung still needs to stack the odds to compete with the Evos and Incredibles of the Android world. Having all 4 carriers on their side is certainly one way to do it.
