Nexus One denied Ice Cream Sandwich, becomes official relic of Android’s yesteryears
If you’re still clinging fast to Google’s first ever Nexus device, now might be the time to start eyeing an upgrade. While the search giant’s solidly confirmed an Ice Cream Sandwich destiny for owners of its penultimate Android flagship, the Nexus S, the same cannot be said for its HTC-made progenitor. It’s not as though Mountain View’s lost any love for its game-changing dev phone, rather that handset’s 2010 guts just aren’t up to snuff for the 4.0 polish. Besides, there are plenty of other more attractive and able-bodied smartphones to help you through the mourning process.

CyanogenMod 6.1.1 now available for the Evo 4G, Nexus One, G2, myTouch 3G
Although the above tweet, I’m sure, speaks for itself, we figured we better make mention of it before you all flood our tips inbox (not that we don’t appreciate it) but better to be one step ahead. Cyanogen Mod 6.1.1 is now live on the CyanogenMod website, and in Rom Manager. The full change log can be viewed via the CyanogenMod Github site. We’re still digging through it all at this point but feel free to share thoughts in the comments or in our forums. [Cyanogen]

Google looking for “product marketing manager” for Android, Nexus One
Would you look at that! Google is getting serious about selling the Nexus One and marketing the Android platform, too. Apparently the folks over at Mountain View have decided not to take the reported less-than-stellar sales (and we’re still not buying that, by the way) lying down. A recent Google job listing calls for:
The Android space is a big opportunity for Google, and an area of strategic importance. As Product Marketing Manager for Android and Nexus One, you support the Direct-To-Consumer marketing plans and initiatives that will be rolled out in the coming months. You are focused on increasing the number of device sales and increasing awareness of the Nexus One brand.
This is refreshing news, especially since Google’s flagship phone is set to be on all four major carriers by this summer. How will this affect the sales of the phone, when potential buyers still won’t be able to lay their hands on it until after they’ve ordered the phone? Only time can answer that question, but this definitely looks to be a positive next step. [Google via Phandroid]
Win Phil’s Google Nexus One [Contest]
That’s right, we’re giving away my original Nexus One. It’s in near-perfect condition and has served me well throughout my journeys for Android Central, but it’s time to send it on to a better home. And that’s where you guys come in. Here are the details:
- Film yourself explaining why you should win my Nexus One. Extra credit for creativity and originality, agility, dexterity, use of props, nudity, etc. (OK, maybe no nudity. Let’s keep this PG-13 at most.)
- Upload it to YouTube, and e-mail me the link at phil at androidcentral dot com.
- We’ll accept submissions through April 30, then present them for you, our loyal subjects, for judging.
This is the T-Mobile 3G version of the Nexus One and served as my daily driver for quite some time. So it’s not brand new, but it’s in great shape, and I’ve got all the original packaging. It’s rooted, and we’ll flash whatever ROM — custom or otherwise — you want.
Good luck everybody!
Nexus One finally gets some color into its trackball
![]()
If you are one of the Nexus One owners who doesn’t quite understand why the device has a trackball, but wish that it could at least add something cooler to the device, your prayers have been answered. The trackball can shine in colors other than white (Google showed that off at its launch event), but for whatever reason it’s never been properly implemented.
Luckily, some extremely talented people of the modding community have been working hard on not only allowing the functionality of the other colors, but as well as working on modding the current live wallpapers. And even better, it’s been added into the most recent CyanogenMod ROM for the Neuxs One, which was released today! Check out video the colored trackball in action after the break. [via Redmond Pie]
CDMA version of the Nexus One goes through the FCC
Don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up yet, but a CDMA version of the Nexus One has made its way through the Federal Communications Commission. Does that mean we’re going to get the Nexus One on Sprint as well as Verizon? Not necessarily. It just means the hardware (Read our Nexus One review) has been tested and approved.
