First light wave quantum teleportation achieved, opens door to ultra fast data transmission

Mark this day, folks, because the brainiacs have finally made a breakthrough in quantum teleportation: a team of scientists from Australia and Japan have successfully transferred a complex set of quantum data in light form. You see, previously researchers had struggled with slow performance or loss of information, but with full transmission integrity achieved — as in blocks of qubits being destroyed in one place but instantaneously resurrected in another, without affecting their superpositions — we’re now one huge step closer to secure, high-speed quantum communication. Needless to say, this will also be a big boost for the development of powerful quantum computing, and combine that with a more bedroom friendly version of the above teleporter, we’ll eventually have ourselves the best LAN party ever.

T-Mobile extending HSPA+ coverage; 4G-like speeds to reach 55 markets

HSPA+ coverage map

Just like last month, T-Mobile has lit up their HSPA+ network in nine more markets, bringing 4G like speed (21 Mbs) to:

  • Boston
  • Erie, Penn.
  • Fresno, Palm Springs and San Diego, Calif.
  • Miami
  • Richmond, Va.
  • Spokane, Wash.
  • Topeka, Kan.

This brings the count up to 55 markets, and over 100 million people covered by the HSPA+ network.  While the G2 should make full use of HSPA+ network technology, the Cliq, Vibrant, Behold II, and MyTouch 3G Slide also benefit from the higher speeds according to T-Mobile.  See T-Mobile’s official statement after the break.

Sprint 4G goes live in 7 new markets

Sprint 4G

Sprint announced it has flipped the magic switch and turned on their 4G network in  New York (Rochester and Syracuse); California (Merced and Visalia); Washington (Tri-Cities and Yakima); and Oregon (Eugene).  This lines up perfectly with the images leaked of their summer roadmap

Though some of us will probably never get any type of 4G service (*cough Jerry’s house*), it’s nice to see things look like they’re right on schedule for the areas they have planned to cover in 2010.  Anybody out there seeing that sexy ’4G network available’ icon on their Evo 4G in any of these new cities?  Follow the break to see the full press release. Sprint flips the 4G switch in Virginia, Utah and Missouri

sprint 4g

Perfect way to end the weekend.  We’ve heard rumours about some people seeing 4G in as-of-yet unannounced areas lately, seen leaked photos of roadmaps, and now we’ve learned that Sprint has indeed activated it’s 4G WiMax network in Richmond, Virginia; Salt Lake City, Utah; and St. Louis, Missouri. From the press release:

Customers in Richmond, Salt Lake City and St. Louis can now use the 4G capabilities of Overdrive(TM) 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, Sprint 3G/4G USB Device 250U from Sierra Wireless and Sprint 3G/4G USB Device U301 to connect to the Web for blazing fast data speeds or the recently released HTC EVO(TM) 4G, America’s first 3G/4G wireless phone. With today’s launches, Sprint 4G is now available in 36 markets across the country.

Hit the break to see the full press release.  HTC Evo users, and soon to be Samsung Epic users, bon apetit!
