MyTouch 3G 1.2 and Fender LE Froyo update pushing out now

 MyTouch 3G 1.2 with Froyo

T-Mobile has begun pushing Android 2.2 Froyo to users of the MyTouch 3G 1.2 Jack and the Fender LE edition. They had previously promised the update would begin on Jan. 12 but at least it is finally rolling out now. As a quick reminder, the update should be rolling out in waves, so not every user should be prompted to download it right away. Thanks to Vicken for the tip and pic!

MyTouch 3G 3.5 Jack and MyTouch Fender LE Froyo rollout to start Jan. 12

 MyTouch Fender LE

T-Mobile has sent word that  users of both the MyTouch 3G 3.5 Jack and the MyTouch Fender LE will see Froyo start hitting their devices starting Jan. 12. The update is OTA (over-the-air) and will be pushed in waves. T-Mobile is aiming to get everyone updated by Feb. 1 so users won’t have to wait too long. Both phones are slightly tweaked versions of the ole’ MyTouch 3G, which got its Froyo update a couple months back. [T-Mobile] Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

The myTouch 3G on T-Mobile will finally be receiving its Froyo OTA starting tomorrow, according to a leaked slide on TmoNews. Joining the Froyo club will bring many improvements for myTouch 3G users, including full Microsoft Exchange support, an improved Android Market including a widget, the Faves Gallery and much more. This is great news for myTouch 3G users who have been waiting patiently for their update. The OTA will begin tomorrow, but will roll-out over the coming weeks, so be patient if yours does not arrive tomorrow. Put another Android device in the ever increasing Froyo club. [Tmo News]

Fashionistas use myTouch on ‘Project Runway’

Heidi Klum and her fellow cohorts on Lifetime’s "Project Runway" were spotted this week using the HTC Magic — or better known as the myTouch 3G here in the U.S. We’re not quite people of fashion here at Android Central, but maybe these fashionistas could consult with the always properly dressed, Ari Gold, and learn about the popular and never out of style — Nexus One. Just saying … Thanks, Andrew!

Mixed bag for T-Mobile’s Q2 numbers

T-Mobile

A T-Mobile released its second-quarter earnings report today. Check out these numbers:

  • Revenue is up to $4.7 billion this quarter, and increase from $4.63 billion in Q1, but a decrease from Q2 2009′s $4.77 billion
  • 6.5 million users have 3G phones, up 25% from Q1 2010
  • T-Mobile’s HSPA+ service covers 85 million Americans with 4G-like speeds
  • There was a decline of 93,000 in the number of total subscribers, compared to a gain of 325,000 in Q2 2009
  • Total customer numbers now stand at 33.6 million
  • About 200,000 prepaid customers were lost in Q2, while just over 100,000 contract customers were added

So, a mix of good and bad for America’s No. 4 wireless provider. As contract customers have (on average) higher monthly bills, the net loss of those prepaid customers isn’t quite so bad. Also, these numbers don’t reflect the launch of the Samsung Vibrant, which by all indications has sold quite well for T-Mobile. Plus, TMO is supposed to be announcing their first fully HSPA+ compliant device soon and a rumored dual-core Snapdragon phone might be coming, both of which should give them something to brag about.  Full presser after the break.

G2s on UK’s T-Mobile are getting an OTA Android 2.1 update

T-Mobile UK G2

T-Mobile UK’s G2, which U.S. users might know as the HTC Hero, will be getting an over-the-air update to Android 2.1 ("Eclair") in the coming weeks. The G2 will join the Hero, which received 2.1 back in May.

For any G2 users who want to know what new hotness they will be receiving, our video walkthrough of Sense on the Evo 4G should be pretty close to what you will be getting. Highlights include : an updated Market, live wallpapers (might we suggest zombies?), and Google Maps Navigation. [T-Mobile UK via CoolSmartphone]

Could this be the Froyo (Android 2.2) version of HTC Sense?

sense 2.2

With 160,000 activations a day, there’s a huge number of people waiting for the HTC Sense UI version of Froyo to show up.  I know all of us here sure are. Usually, we have to pass on the random screenshot tip that rolls in, but in this case they are worth talking about.  To be sure — we can in no way verify that these are real, as anyone with a rudimentary set of Android ROM cooking skills and a copy of Photoshop could pull them off.  On the other hand, a Froyo version of Sense UI should be in testing somewhere, and it would look pretty much like this (watermarks and all) if it were to show itself.

With all that out of the way, if anyone out there in the ‘tubes needs a hand testing, or removing watermarks from a legit Sense 2.2 leak, just sing out.  I’m sure we can find you some help :)   Hit the break to see one more screenshot of the camera application showing off 720p resolution. Thanks Dan!

CyanogenMod 6 (Froyo) status update

cyaongenmod

If you use a custom ROM on your Android phone, you should know about CyanogenMod.  If you don’t, go hit Google now, then come right back.  (pretty freakin’ sweet, huh?) With the drop of the Froyo (Android 2.2) source code everyone is patiently waiting for the code wizards behind the CyaongenMod project to give us the kind of custom goodness we’ve become used to.  To quell the mountain of inquiries, Cyanogen himself has updated the CyanogenMod homepage with a progress report.

The condensed version? Things are going well.  The Nexus One and Droid ports "just work," the Dream/Sapphire port has everything but one minor issue working, Wes Garner has the Slide (MyTouch 3G slide) port well underway, and ports for the Desire, Incredible, and Evo have no status report as of yet.  Also, we’re told to expect some experimental releases (for the Nexus One and Droid most likely) by the weekend.  (YAY!)  Hit the source link to read the post and take a minute to thank Steve and the whole crew for their hard work! MyTouch 3G Froyo update coming ‘soon’

myTouch3G getting it's froyo on

Who says only the latest and greatest Android phones will get Android 2.2?  Not T-mobile.  HTC already let us know that all their Android devices manufactured this year would be getting a Froyo update, but that left users of 2nd generation hardware wondering if they would ever be seeing it.  That question has just been answered for myTouch 3G users.

What this means for other second-generation hardware is unknown.  Also unknown is the all important date when myTouch 3G users should expect their Android 2.2 update.  We don’t have a clue, but you can count on reading about it here when we know more.  [TmoNews]

Get a T-Mobile myTouch 3G for free

Likely in anticipation of the upcoming T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide launch, the original myTouch is now available for free from T-Mobile (with new two-year contract). Remember, the myTouch 3G started off as the second Android device ever and turned into T-Mobile’s flagship Android device (it still gets tons of commercials!)–it was definitely a solid phone from Android’s previous generation. But with the myTouch 3G Slide besting the myTouch 3G in every way, it was due for a huge price cut. If you really want a myTouch, we’d wait until June 2nd for the myTouch 3G Slide. It doesn’t make sense to invest in the previous generation anymore, even if it is for free. [t-mobile via tmonews]
