ConnecTV social companion beta launches for iPad, PC and Mac (hands-on)

The old guard’s attempt at a social TV companion just got real with the launch of ConnecTV in open beta for iPad, PC and Mac — smartphones and Android tablet versions are coming soon. The idea is you’ll load up this app while watching TV and find a whole new way to discover details of your favorite content while at the same time share with your friends. The app uses a mic to detect what you’re watching just like IntoNow and links up with both Facebook or Twitter (it’ll also work on its own).

NASA debuts two new educational games for iOS, Facebook

NASA is no stranger to apps , but the space agency is branching out further into some new territory with its two latest offerings: a pair of educational games. The first is Sector 33 , an air traffic control simulator for iOS devices that certainly won’t be confused with Flight Control , but which NASA hopes will help teach math and possibly get folks interested in aviation

Strategy Analytics: Apple still owns tablet market, but Android narrows the gap

Strategy Analytics has come out with another report on the state of today’s tablet market, which, not surprisingly, remains dominated by Apple. Cupertino’s iOS comprised about 58 percent of the global slate market during Q4 2011 — well ahead of Android’s record high 39 percent share, but down from the 68 percent it commanded during the final quarter of 2010.

Tim Cook: the tablet will be bigger than the PC one day

This probably shouldn’t shock too many people but, Tim Cook believes the future isn’t with the PC, but with the tablet. After shipping 15.4 million iPads in Q1 Cupertino is clearly comfortable with the idea that tablets are taking off and, as we begin to demand our devices become more mobile, it only makes sense that these finger-friendly slates will one day outsell less portable options like laptops and desktops.
