NetLED WiFi-enabled, app-controllable, LED light tubes come to Japan

Because deep down, all you’ve ever really wanted are smartphone adjustable WiFi-LED light tubes controlled by a remote server out in the ether. Snarkiness aside, that’s exactly what Japan’s Net LED Technology Corporation has done with a lighting system it lovingly calls NetLED. The setup isn’t for frugal types as, before even purchasing lights, you’ll need to plunk down 60,000 yen (around $780) for a netLED router that serves as an intermediary between those fixtures and the company’s remote server.

Vizio ultrawidescreen, Google TV and Cinema 3D HDTV hands-on

After Vizio gave the world a preview of its PC and tablet plans it also announced plans for new HDTVs and a couple of set-top boxes, so we couldn’t resist traveling back over to its Wynn-based lounge to view the beasts in their natural habitat. That said, while TBD is still the watchword when it comes to release dates and pricing, we’re told highly anticipated sets like the first ultrawidescreen units should be available for preorder soon.

Toshiba 55X3 4K 3DTV launches December 10th in Japan, no glasses necessary

Toshiba is finally ready to bring its 55-inch, 4K res 3DTV home in Japan, and buyers will have their first chance to part with 900,000 yen ($11,578 US) on December 10th. The 55X3 ( ZL2 in Europe ) still doesn’t have a North American ship date, but we can still drool over its high res display and autostereoscopic (no glasses) 3D screen that adjusts for its viewers’ location based on face tracking technology, although that results in a resolution drop down to 720p. Our last time getting eyes-on with a prototype panel was at CES and we probably won’t see it again until we’re back in Las Vegas in a few weeks, let’s hope all that CEVO Engine technology Toshiba’s plugged in for image processing makes it worth the wait..
