T-Mobile’s Black Friday Plans Revealed; B2G1 Accessories Extended Until Dec. 31st, Discounted Down Payments for Off-Contract Phones

This image has no alt text

We’ve just gotten word from our trusty T-Mobile inside about some deals related to Black Friday and the holiday season. Firstly, they’re offering discounts on down payments for off-contract device purchases.

The Samsung Exhibit II 4G the MyTouch by LG (excluding the Q) and the Samsung Gravity Smart all have no down payments so you can walk out of the store with the device without having to pay anything up front.

The LG DoublePlay can be had for just a $50 down payment and the Galaxy S II only needs a  $200 down payment. In order to be eligible for any of these deals you must get either the Unlimited Value Text and Talk with 2GB or higher plan or the Unlimited Small Business Text and Talk with 2GB or higher plan.

Also going on is an extension on buy 2, get 1 free accessories – you have until New Year’s Eve to take advantage! While these may not be huge deals compared to other carriers’, they’re deals nonetheless. Be sure to keep an eye out for them at your local T-Mobile stores. [Thanks _______!]

December 1st Launch Event Could Introduce Us to the LG Nitro HD

This image has no alt text

LG just launched their Optimus LTE in Canada, but have remained relatively quiet otherwise as Samsung, Motorola, and HTC all put forth their latest and greatest Android smartphones. A December 1st press event may change that. It is expected (not confirmed) that LG will launch the US version of the Optimus LTE under the guise of the LG Nitro HD on that date. The invite makes no mention of the device, but its file name tells a different story. LG Nitro it reads. We’ll be covering the event live as always and providing up-to-the-minute news and observations.

Bell Launches Canada’s First HD Smartphone, the LG Optimus LTE

This image has no alt text

Those in Canada have been sitting by quietly as a series of smartphones featuring 720p displays has launched elsewhere. The HTC Rezound has hit the US and the Galaxy Nexus is now out in the UK. The Nexus will hit North America in December, but Canadians are getting their first taste of Android in high-def thanks to the LG Optimus LTE available today on Bell.

The Android 2.3 handset features a 4.5-inch display at 720×1280 pixels, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera capable of 1080p video recording. On a three-year contract the Optimus LTE is priced as low as $149.95. The handset is making waves in Korea and is headed to the US as the LG Nitro HD

LG holding ‘exclusive launch event’ on December 1st, Nitro HD the likely suspect

In case you were wondering why LG hasn’t been making huge waves in the US this holiday season yet, it appears we now know the reason. The company just sent us a nice invite in the form of electronic mail, detailing an exclusive launch event on the evening of December 1st (next Thursday). LG was trying to play coy by not leaving any clues in the image, but fortunately it left the name of the image file easily seen by our prying eyes: LG Nitro. The Nitro HD has long been rumored to be the Optimus LTE for AT&T and another name for the P930, which was referenced in an XML file as having a 1,280 x 720 HD display. Sounds great, but we never know for sure until it happens — after all, we could be introduced to a $50 prepaid T-Mobile phone exclusive to 7-11. Anyone want to place bets?

LG Optimus EX sneaks out of its box, reminds us it’s still here

Remember the Optimus EX? Not to be confused with LG’s LTE flavor of smartphone, this dual-cored Android has been spotted hanging around outside its cardboard enclosure. This slab was previously revealed a few months back, flashing (quite literally) a 700 nit display alongside a refreshed 1.2GHz Tegra 2 processor. Like these brief glimpses of the phone, pricing and release date info is light on detail, with no hint of the mobile TV-toting handset planning a visit over here. While LG’s latest presumably ambles up to Korean phone stores very soon, we offer up another photo after the break to help satiate those Optimus affections that may otherwise go unrequited.

Verizon’s Black Friday Deals Revealed

This image has no alt text

So you’re wondering what Verizon’s got cooking for the biggest shopping day of the year? According to new evidence by Droid-Life there are some things you might want to take advantage. We’ve got deals on a few of Verizon’s big devices.

The Motorola XOOM can be had for $200. While you might opt for something a bit more “recent” it has finally gotten its 4G upgrade and at this price is a decent offering if you plan on sticking with it for two years.

You can also get the red DROID Incredible 2 for free with a new two-year agreement. Take a look at the rest of Verizon’s supposed deals below, including one we already knew of – double the data on their mobile broadband plans. Without unlimited data as an option you can’t get much better than that.

  • Motorola XOOM for $199 on-contract
  • Red DROID Incredible 2 for FREE (Friday only)
  • Double smartphone data still going on ($30 for 4GB)
  • Free activations
  • Sony Xperia Play and LG Enlighten for FREE
  • LG Revolution for $49.99 (Friday only)

Mobile Miscellany: week of November 14, 2011

This week was packed with news on the mobile front, so it was easy to miss a few stories here and there. Here’s some of the other stuff that happened in the wide world of wireless for the week of November 14, 2011:

  • Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Ingram Micro, a distributor that ships phones to Amazon, Buy.com, Best Buy and Newegg, to expand the distribution of its Android lineup in the US. The deal will include a healthy chunk of the Xperia series, including the arc S. [PRNewswire]
  • Like the Motorola Defy+ but it’s just not tough enough? Check out the limited-edition JCB version of the rugged device, which adds a hardcore JCB case, a special app with handyman tools and a two-year extended warranty. And it can be yours through Clove on December 6th for £219. [TechDigest]
  • Verizon introduced the LG Extrovert, a prepaid device with a slide-out four-row QWERTY, 2.8-inch WQVGA (400 x 240) touchscreen display, 2MP camera and expandable storage. It, however, lacks 3G data. It’s all yours on Verizon’s prepaid site for $110. [PhoneArena]
  • Speaking of Big Red, the rugged Casio Gz’One Ravine 2 was launched this week, and can be yours for $150 with a two-year contract. [PhoneScoop]
  • The BlackBerry Bold 9790, announced this week, is confirmed to show up in the UK on Vodafone and O2, likely sometime in January. [Unwired View]
  • SFR is selling the ZTE Tania, but it appears to be sold as a carrier-branded Windows Phone. You can purchase it without a contract for €269, or with a two-year commitment for €9.99. [MobileTechWorld]
  • Twitter for Windows Phone just got updated to be compatible with Mango. It’s meant to offer a smoother experience, but doesn’t bring any new features with it. [WMPowerUser]
  • Fandango debuted a new paperless ticket system, in concert with Regal-owned theaters, which can send a scannable bar code to your phone when you want to go see a movie. The ticket-takers then simply scan the code and you’re all ready to root on Team Edward in the latest Twilight movie. Just don’t forget the popcorn. [Yahoo!]

Ice Cream Sandwich ported to a Galaxy S II… and the people rejoice (update: LG Optimus 3D too!)

Man, these hackers work fast. It was just earlier this week when Google released the source code for Ice Cream Sandwich, and a mere four days later the new OS has made its way onto Samsung’s Galaxy S II. While ICS is looking good on the GSII’s gorgeous AMOLED display, the port is still an alpha — the Bluetooth, WiFi and other radios aren’t functioning just yet, but work is ongoing, and future releases are coming soon. Sound good? Well, wait’ll you get a load of the port in action in the video after the break.

Update: And the ports are coming fast and furious now — somebody gave the ICS treatment to an LG Optimus 3D.
