Beautiful Widgets sees significant update

Beautiful Widgets 4x1 Super Clock Widget

Beautiful Widgets, the popular clock and weather app from Level Up Studios, saw a significant update this morning to version 3.3.  This update brought several welcome changes, including the new "Super Clock" widgets.  Besides for the obvious new look, these widgets are hi-res, allowing them to be scaled without quality loss.  You can also swap out the weather icon with one that shows you your battery status, or choose from one of the new clock only widgets if you only care about the time.

Beautiful Widgets was one of my first app downloads when I got my Droid over a year ago, and I’ve loved using it ever since.  Full changelog, market link, and two more screenshots after the break.

Dance a jig with a robot in this new live wallpaper [video]

The Android Market is filled with some pretty terrible live wallpapers. Most of them cause your device’s battery to die faster or cause it to crash, constantly. But every once in awhile, we share one we think you guys might like. This particular live wallpaper is one of those. It’s fairly simple in design and concept. It’s a robot dancing the jigg — you can’t beat that! Developer Scipher Technologies has two versions available: free and donation ($0.99). Search for JiggBot Live in the Android Market. QR code and video after the break.

Nexus S live wallpaper available for download [from the forums]

Nexus S live wallpaper

While the Nexus S isn’t available quite yet, that didn’t stop some enterprising hackers from fashioning a re-work of the ho-hum boring original Nexus live wallpaper into the beauty you see above.  It’s easy to install (yes, you have to be rooted), but it does overwrite the original — so back that up if you want to keep it.

We’ve got it working here on the Evo 4G and the Droid Incredible, but didn’t have much luck on the Droid X. Your mileage may vary.  Check it out, and get the download  and full instructions in the Droid Incredible forums. [Android Central Forums]

Get the Droid 2 eye live wallpaper now

Droid 2 eye live wallpaper

OK, so it’s a little wrong to put the Droid 2 eye live wallpaper on a Nexus One. But it’s also very, very right. It’s a simple install, and you don’t have to be rooted to do it. You just need a phone that can handle live wallpapers. Hit up the source link for the download info. [XDA Developers]

Update: If you’re getting a parsing error, try getting the apk onto your phone through a different method. (I used Dropbox, or you can try the Sideload Wonder Machine)

‘aSpiritBomb’ live wallpaper offers an explosion of visual ecstasy

Sorry for bad quality... looks much better in video and in person!!

We are always on the lookout for cool to apps to share with everyone, and this nifty Android live wallpaper caught our eye. It’s called aSpiritBomb, and more than lives up to its name. By tapping anywhere on the screen, you create little orbes that swirl into the glowing center, which resembles a sun. The sun then grows and pulses as you continue to add more and more orbes to it. Dropping an application or widget cause numerous orbes to be launched from it, which is a really great effect.

Once the sun has grown large, you can tap on it and shoot out tiny specs of light. Double tapping will cause the sun to actually explode, shooting out orbes of every color in all directions. For any of you that have played Geometry Wars, it resembles a wormhole when they explode, which is fine by me.

The app was a blast to play with, and is available now on the Android Market for a little more than $1. Be sure to check out video and the download links after the break.

Album art live wallpaper shows how bad your musical taste is

Album art live wallpaper

Once again the developers at AndroidGamer have an awesome new Live Wallpaper to share with us.  You might remember their last jewel, Advanced Map Live Wallpaper, from when we had a look at it last month.  Well, Album Art live wallpaper is just as original!  The application scans your music, and pulls out the album art to create a collage of sorts as your wallpaper.  It’s chock full of settings, and according to the developers the features include:

  • Variable cover size
  • Shuffle
  • Automatic refresh
  • Battery friendly
  • Smooth scrolling
  • LauncherPro support

We’ve been using it for a bit now and are having a tad of trouble getting it to recognize our collection of Hungarian folk tunes, so your mileage may vary.

You can get Album Art live wallpaper  on the Android Market for 99 cents, or there’s a demo version for free! (Live wallpapers only work with Android 2.1 and higher!)

Like ton’s of other apps, this one comes from the minds and hearts of the guys over at Xda-Developers, and you can check out the official support thread HERE.  Links and more pics after the break.  Thanks David!

Super Mario sidescrolls way through your Android live wallpaper

Super Mario live wallpaper

This quite possibly is the greatest thing we’ve ever seen before breakfast (at least since Zombies crossed our desk). That’s right, it’s Super Mario, scrolling his way on through your Android 2.1 (and up) live wallpaper. He plays through a couple of levels, and you can tweak the settings to show the paths that Mario is thinking about taking. It’s all brought to you by pikipirs at XDA Developers, so drop a dime or two in the collection plate if you feel like it. Download at the source link, and check out some video after the break.
