AT&T blocking beta tester Dell Streaks?

There’s no official word from AT&T (yet), but it certainly appears that it is blocking the IMEI numbers of all the Dell Streaks handed out to testers in the US.  All data is blocked, and any calls are being routed back to AT&T customer ser…

Dell Streak won’t be certified for T-Mobile, will get Android 2.2 later this year

First, the good: Dell has confirmed that its 5-inch Streak mini-tablet will get Android 2.2 later this year through an over-the-air update. It will, however, still launch with Android 1.6. It will be available in black at launch, and in cherry r…

Dell Streak imminent, pre-sale window coming

That rumored July 19 date for the Dell Streak has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean the 5-inch tablet-MID mashup isn’t imminent. On the contrary, Dell says it’s due in "late July," and it’s opening a 24-hour presale launch window with fre…

Android powered Dr. Eye makes its debut

Dr. Eye is not a super villain. Actually, it’s Invantec’s new Android powered pocket-sized mini netbook. It sports a clamshell-inspired 4.8in touchscreen along with a full qwerty keyboard, and is also equipped with 3G, WIFI, and even a front facing camera. Dr. Eye (I really like saying that ) will be powered by a Marvel 624 – the same CPU found in the Dell Aero. For a device running the ancient Android 1.6, the $400 price tag may seem pretty hefty. But if it’s any consolation, Éclair will be making an appearance in the near future. An official release date has not been announced quite yet, but according to the video, it should be right around the corner. Be sure to check it out after the break. [via Engadget]

Dell Mini 5 heading to T-Mobile, too

The Dell Mini 5 (formerly known, or is still known, as the Streak) just cleared the FCC and from the looks of it, is heading to T-Mobile. Wait, what? Didn’t we just say that the Mini 5 was packing AT&T 3G? Why, yes we did. So how is it heading to T-Mobile, too? Because Dell wants to own the Android MID/tablet space, apparently. And from the few times we’ve seen the Dell Mini 5 in action, they just might. Can we get an official launch date, now? [via engadget]

Toshiba to jump into the tablet war

Everyone’s heard of the iPad by now, ICD has announced their Gemini tablet, HTC jumps in with their own tablet news, and now Toshiba says they’re getting into the battle. It’s like the Cold War all over again, but this time instead of mutually assured destruction we’ll just have a bunch of broke gadget lovers.

Focusing on media consumption, Toshiba plans on offering tablet versions running Android as well as versions with Windows 7. Along with multiple options for operating systems, they’re also looking at different form factors, including a dual-screen version. No specs as of yet, but it’s got me interested (as I type from my Toshiba laptop).

Now, could somebody please tell me what to do with a dual-screen tablet computer? [Reuters via Electronista]

Dell Mini 5 Update: Headed to AT&T & T-Mobile, Maybe Runs Android 2.1

The Dell Mini 5, which is a sleek and sexy MID-styled device we’ve seen before, just got hit with some new news. It’s expected to release in the US on both AT&T and T-Mobile and will maybe, hopefully run Android 2.1.

To expand, the exact wording is that it’ll be running "something newer" than Android 1.6 which means either Android 2.0 or 2.1 (or maybe something even newer?), and with Android 2.1 being all the rage right now, it’d be almost foolish for them to release the Dell Mini 5 without it. The AT&T and T-Mobile news is interesting (but not unexpected) because we’re not really sure who would use this as a phone. Sure, it comes with your typical phone functionality but is it practical to use a device that packs a 5-inch touchscreen as your daily driver? Would people buy it with a contract? We’d imagine more people would buy it unlocked for use as a MID or tablet-styled device. But what do we know.

Overall, the Dell Mini 5 looks amazing and looks to run just as amazing with its 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Dell would definitely have to hit the right price point for this device to succeed and we’re definitely hopeful for it. We’ll try to get our own hands on soon!

Hands-on with the PCD MID650

PCD MID650

Another day, another Android MID. At least, that’s kind of what it feels like. And here’s the MID650 from PCD (PCDphones.com), whom we mainly know as the keeper of Verizon software upgrades. This is just a prototype, so you can’t buy it anywhere, and it had a power issue at the time, so we didn’t actually get to see Android running on it. But what we have here is a 5-inch TFT touchscreen at 800×480. It’ll have 3G radio (this one had the GSM variety), WiFi, GPS, MicroSD, a 2MP camera and FM radio.

PCD’s vice president of advanced devices, Joe Cufari, told us that it should see some upgraded features when it goes into production, namely that the 5-inch screen should became a 7-inch screen, and Android 1.5 would be swapped out for 2.0 or so.

We’re not the world’s biggest fans of mobile Internet devices, but this one really did feel pretty good in the hand. Dimensions were 4.6 wide by 3 inches tall by 0.7 inches deep.

A few more pics after the break.
