Motorola Flipout available today on AT&T
Been waiting for the Motorola Flipout on AT&T? It’s available today (just like Android Guys said it would be) for $79.99 on two-year contract, or $349 outright. Either way, no messy rebates to deal with, which is nice. Go back and check out our Flipout hands-on from CTIA if you’re still on the fence, the pull the trigger and get your flip on. [AT&T]

Motorola Flipout and Flipside Hands On [Video]
You can think of the Motorola Flipout and Motorola Flipside as companion devices for AT&T – both are aimed squarely at upgrading featurephone users into Android-land by wooing them with QWERTY keyboards and MotoBlur.
Of the two, the horizontal-sliding Flipside specs are obviously the more powerful: a 720MHz processor with 512mb of ROM, a 320×480 screen, and a touchpad that’s not embarrassed to be gigantic to make moving your cursor around that much easier. We’ve no gripes about the keyboard or, well about the Flipside in general. It’s a capable low-to-mid range MotoBlur device and if that’s the thing for you or yours, we don’t judge.
The Flipout, meanwhile, tries to win on charm. It’s a cute little square with a colored back that comes with two colors in the box (Red and Green to you, Rose and Saffron to AT&T). The screen itself flips up rotationally to reveal a super-tall portrait keyboard with a nigh-useless 5-way dpad in the lower lefthand corner. Naturally, as this size, the Flipout’s specs are on the low-end. Of most concern is the 320×240 screen which not only raises concerns with app compatibility but just plain didn’t look well-thought-out to us. Android may have 320×240 in their spec, but it needs work to …work at this size and Moto didn’t even put in enough to anti-alias the text on the menus. Finally, this phone’s main draw – the keyboard – feels awkward and unfriendly.
We’ll leave the ‘flip’ puns as an exercise to the reader, instead just telling you, as usual, that you can find more photos and a demo video of both devices after the break!

AT&T unleashes a trio of Androids: The Motorola Bravo, Flipside and Flipout
We knew AT&T had some more Android up its sleeve — we just didn’t think it’d be dropping three new phones on us at once. But a trio we have. Seen above from left are the Motorola Bravo, Flipside and Flipout. The deets:
Motorola Bravo
A 3.7-inch WVGA (480×854) touchscreen with 3-megapixel camera, powered by an 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 2GB ROM and a 2GB microSD card. Features DLNA access for streaming media. Motoblur UI atop Android 2.1. Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. 1540mAh battery, weighs 4.59 ounces. Has Adobe Flash Lite.
Available by the holidays for $129.99 after contract. No rebate required.
Motorola Flipside
A 3.1-inch touchscreen (320×480) horizontal slider with four-row keyboard. Runs Motoblur atop Android 2.1. Has a 3MP camera. Is powered by a TI OMAP 3410 processor running at 720MHz. Has 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM and a 2GB microSD card. Has Adobe Flash Lite, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Wifi b/g and an FM radio. 1540 mAh battery, weighs 5.11 ounces.
Available by the holidays for $99.99 after contract. No rebate required.
Motorola Flipout
We’ve seen this one before, but now it’s official. A 2.8-inch touchscreen (320×240) atop a full QWERTY keyboard. Runs Android 2.1 and Motoblur. Powered by a TI OMAP 3410 processor at 720 MHz. 512MB of RAM, 512MB of ROM and a 2GB microSD card. Wifi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. 3MP camera, fixed focus. 1170mAh battery, weighs 4.3 ounces.
Available Oct. 17 for $79.99 after contract. No rebate required.
All in all, nothing terribly high end, but respectable mid-level phones. Presumably they’ll be locked into the Android Market like AT&T’s other fare, but that’s why we have the Android Sideload Wonder Machine. [AT&T, Bravo, Flipside, Flipout]

eBay brings us the Motorola Flipout before AT&T even announces it
It seems as though the Motorola Flipout could be a little more alive then we thought last last week. While we still haven’t even had an official announcement from AT&T about this device, it appears to have surfaced on eBay. Interesting thing about this auction is that the price, $388.88 is probably less then we will see the device for at full retail from AT&T, if it is released ever, so if you are interested in this device you don’t want to miss this deal! Motorola Flipout may be delayed — or dead — on AT&T
![]()
It’s not often that a smartphone gets all the way into testers’ hands and in-store marketing materials are printed up, only to see the device killed off before ever making a sale. But that may be what happened in the case of the Motorola Flipout on AT&T. Engadget got a tip on Saturday that it would hit stores a day later. But here we are a couple days later, and there’s no Flipout to be flipped.
We know it was in the midst of hands-on testing. But is it dead? Is it resting? Is it pining for the fjords? Was it all just a bad rumor? We’ll poke at this one for a little while to see if it starts moving again, but only just a little while. [Engadget]

Motorola Flipout headed to AT&T this Sunday?
![]()
We’ve been following the Motorola Flipout’s slow road towards AT&T since June, and it looks like things are coming to a head this Sunday (Sept. 19), according to Engadget’s source. As we talked about a few weeks ago, the Flipout should ship with Android 2.1-update 1, running Motorola’s enhanced Blur, comes in bronze or blue, and is clearly a contender against the BlackBerry Torch for those that need a smartphone with a physical keyboard.
While not a beast of a device, the Flipout should fill the need for anyone who needs a small form factor with a qwerty, wants a better media experience that the Torch can offer, and doesn’t mind using a third-party tool like our SideLoad Wonder Machine to sideload apps. If this sounds like you, give it a look and shout out if you pick one up. [Engadget]

More details, plus a new color, on the AT&T Motorola Flipout
We brought you the first pictures of the AT&T version of the Motorola Flipout, and now it’s time to drop off a truckload of info on the device. Let’s do so in handy bullet form, shall we?
- The phone runs the updated version of Motoblur 1.5 — but it’s not what you find on the Droid X and Droid 2.
- The operating system is Android 2.1 (update1, we presume).
- Widgets are resizeable, like on the Droid X and Droid 2.
- There are filtering options for your social networks, so you’re not completely deluged with information.
- The 2.8-inch screen (at the old-school 320×240 resolution) is described as "garbage" with a low, low 120 pixels per inch. (Hey, it’s not mean to be high-end.)
- That said, the body of the phone and build quality are said to be top-notch, which is no surprise for Motorola. We may not like the design, but, dammit, they can certainly build things well.
- Benchmarks: 26FPS on nenamark, 444 on quadrant, 5.8MFlops on linpack, but it’s topping out on gears and 2dfps at 30FPS.
- The phone is pretty speedy, with its OMAP processor running at 720MHz and PowerVR SGX 530 GPU.
- This is AT&T we’re talking about, so there is no app sideloading, but like the Backflip and Aria and Captivate, you can use ADB or the Android Sideload Wonder Machine to install the .apk files.
- Google Navigation is in, and Google is the default search,
unlike on the Backflip. Yahoo is the homepage, but that is changed easily
enough.
So there you go, folks. We’re looking at a small, speedy, pocketable Android phone. We’ve got a couple more pictures after the break, including one with a blue backing — perhaps there will be interchangeable battery covers?

Motorola Flipout shows off itself in a demo video
The Motorola Flipout, which we first showed you with AT&T branding in late June, is available in some parts of the world and is already being put through its paces. The basic specs:
- 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen
- Android 2.1 (Eclair)
- Motoblur
- QWERTY keyboard
The Flipout may be coming to the U.S. soon on AT&T. If you live in Canada, however, you can buy it on Rogers right now. For more about the Flipout’s look and feel, check out the video after the break. [TracyandMatt]

Rogers announces the Captivate as ‘coming soon’; Flipout available now
Rogers has announced the you’ll soon be able to get your mitts on the Samsung Captivate (see our hands on HERE), and if you’re into tiny flippy things the Motorola Flipout is available for purchase now. Rogers’ RedBoard blog says that the Captivate will be available in the coming weeks (no specific date just yet) and they seem to be excited about having a top-of-the-line Android phone available north of the border. So are we!
The Flipout, on the other hand, is available now from Rogers for $29.99 (CDN) on contract, or just $345.00 (CDN) if bought outright. The Flipout is one of those oddballs that we would love to play with for a while — the design could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, or a total wash. We have to reserve judgment until we get to fondle one for a bit. Anyone out there excited for either of these? Holler out in the comments and in the forums! [Rogers via Twitter and RedBoard]

Motorola Flipout possibly coming to AT&T
If you’re on AT&T and looking longingly at that Motorola Charm, you may soon see its older brother make an appearance. Our tipster says it’s currently in testing with AT&T (whose other Android phones are the Moto Backflip, HTC Aria and upcoming Samsung Captivate).
It’s said to have Android 2.1 on board, and we assume (and very much hope) will have the same improvements to Motoblur that the Charm, Cliq and Cliq XT will have. We have to assume at this point that AT&T will keep the Flipout locked down to not allow the sideloading of apps — which we still hate to see, but likely a decision that won’t greatly impact someone who’s looking for a phone of this kind in the first place. We’re also told that "Test units have Yahoo as the browser default," just like the Backflip.
One more picture after the break, folks. Thanks, anonymous.
