Droid Eris update coming July 16

droid eris software update

That’s right Droid Eris users, Verizon did not forget you — there’s a software update coming on July 16 that’s slated to fix a whole slew of audio and contacts issues.  When the update to Android 2.1 rolled around, there was quite a bit of disappointment as things were, shall we say, broken, and with the Eris being discontinued everyone thought that was the end of bug-fixes and other software enhancements.  Nice to see that wasn’t the case, and Verizon hasn’t forgotten it’s customers who prefer the smaller, but still sexy, Eris.  Hit the break to see another leaked screen shot with some information about exactly what is getting fixed.  [DroidLife]

RvU — custom Android 2.1 ROM for the Evo 4G straight from the Android Central forums

RvU custom ROM

Not quite satisfied with the stock firmware on your new HTC Evo?  Or maybe you just have the itch to tinker that comes naturally when some folks get their paws on an Android phone.  Android Central member and all around goof off THE Keith Newman and his cohorts have you covered.

The ROM is a mostly stock version of the latest EVO stock system  (with the OTA fixes in place), but has some very nice custom touches:

  • Fully rooted
  • Busybox installed and working
  • Working 4G :)
  • Non essential apps have been moved out of the locked /system partition for easy removal if you don’t want them installed
  • Some great 3rd party apps are included (courtesy of their respective developers, check the forum thread for details)

If rooting, hacking, and forcing the big black slab that is the Evo to submit to your will is your thing, hit the forums and check out the thread.

The ROM looks and feels like stock, but there’s a few screen caps to whet your ROM appetite after the break.
