Gingerbread Getting Closer for Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate

This image has no alt text

A Gingerbread update for the Samsung Fascinate is just one of those things you kind of assume was already out. After all, the Samsung Galaxy S II launched months ago and most manufacturers have shifted their attention to Ice Cream Sandwich. But things don’t work like that, and the Fascinate has yet to receive its Android 2.3 update. Things are looking better, though. Field testing has reportedly begun for a software build EH03, as the above screen capture provided to Droid Life suggests. The Android version is 2.3.5, a far cry from Android 4.0 but a significant update nonetheless. If all holds true, we should at least see a leak of the new software relatively soon.

Deal Alert: Best Buy’s “Free Phone Wednesday” Starts Tomorrow At A Store Near You

This image has no alt text

I’ve always been one of the more… “frugal” people I know. Which is why I love bringing you good deals like this. Tomorrow Best Buy is having their “Free Phone Wednesday” event and they’re giving away some great Android handsets for almost nothing. The handsets included in this deal are the Motorola Atrix 4G on AT&T, Samsung Nexus S 4G on Sprint and the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon.
This could be seen as more of a clearance event than anything but hey, free is free. Keep in mind is some states you will still have to pay sales tax for the full price of the phone along with the appropriate activation fee’s so, don’t expect to leave your wallet at home. Anyone have any experience with any of these phones? Care to advise some would-be buyers?

A couple weeks back we learned the Samsung Fascinate would be added to the stable of devices supporting CyanogenMod 7. Nightly builds are now live for the device, offering users of the handset an alternative to its current Android 2.2 build and the bugs that have in some cases rendered it a frustrating mess. Download links to the latest builds can be found via the CyanogenMod source link below.

ED05 Update Ready for Samsung Fascinate, Squashes Incoming Call Bug

This image has no alt text

The ability for Samsung Fascinate owners to exchange their buggy handsets for something bit newer and totally fresher may be short lived as a new update with build number ED05 is prepped and waiting in the wings. The software patch will correct the incoming call bug that has been bothering some users and deal with some minor SMS snags. Google Books will also come pre-loaded with the update. No word on when it will begin rolling out, but look for it on a Fascinate near you in the near future.

Verizon Replacing Buggy Fascinates With Other, Newer Devices

This image has no alt text

“It’s like raaaaaain on your wedding day..” Looks like some Samsung Fascinate owners are experiencing troubles fit for an Alanis Morissette song. Ironically, after receiving a minor software update that was supposed to fix incoming call quality, some Fascinate users are reporting they’ve stopped receiving calls altogether. That’s enough to steam anyone but don’t worry, Verizon is well aware of the issue. Big Red is offering free “upgrades” so-to-speak to anyone affected with this incoming call bug in the form of a replacement Droid Charge, Droid Incredible 2 or Droid X2. Not too shabby, right?

Before you get too excited these devices are “Certified Like-New Replacments” and you will have to bring the phone in to a Verizon store to verify your phone is affected. But hey, now you wont have an excuse for missing your nagging girlfriend’s calls anymore. Shoot.

Samsung Fascinate Gets Gingerbread Leak

This image has no alt text

Nope, Verizon hasn’t forgotten about you Fascinate owners. It looks like they’re working on a Gingerbread update for the device and P3Droid has leaked the first known build for it. From the looks of it, there’s not much here that’s new. You do get Samsung’s new darker color scheme for the notification pane and we imagine the latest version of Swype, but we can’t tell what else has changed since Froyo. Head on over to XDA for instructions and support, but know that you’re responsible for anything that happens to your device. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
