Cyangen Mod for Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile Galaxy S) Support Dropped Due to 911 Issue
While the Samsung Vibrant may not be the newest kid on the block anymore, it’s still quite the capable device and one that has gotten tons of support through community development. One community ROM was the ever-so-popular Cyanogen Mod. I say “was” because support is no longer being offered for this device

CyanogenMod 7 comes to a handful of new Samsung devices

The CyanogenMod family of devices is continuing to grow, with this week seeing official support of its first Samsung device, AT&T’s Captivate. But that wasn’t the only Sammy phone to gain the privilege. Also added to the ranks were the Samsung Galaxy S, Vibrant, and Nexus S 4G.
ROMs for these phones haven’t reached official release candidate stature, but the first nightly builds of CyanogenMod 7, based on Android 2.3.4, came online last night. If you feel comfortable enough with your rooting skills to give these early builds a go, you can find them at CM’s page for your downloading pleasure. Or simply click here for the Galaxy S, here for the Vibrant, here for the Nexus S 4G, or here for the Captivate.

Samsung Vibrant/Galaxy S 4G Passes FCC With AT&T Bands; Manages to Win Best of Show at CTIA

It’s been discovered that Samsung has submitted another version of the Samsung Vibrant to the FCC with AT&T 3G bands suggesting AT&T could be preparing to migrate customers over to their network soon. This is unlikely right now considering the deal between AT&T and T-Mobile has yet to be approved and according to recent murmurs, it may be a long time before that actually happens.
Engadget speculates that it could be due to a Canadian carrier adopting a similar phone with the same looks and similar model number. We’d put more of our eggs into this basket than the one woven above.
In related news, T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S 4G somehow won best of show (for the mobile phone category) at CTIA Wireless this past week. As you know, devices that weren’t announced ahead of the show could not be nominated leaving out worthy contenders such as the T-Mobile Sidekick, the T-Mobile G2x, and Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D
Still, there were phones such as the LG Revolution the HTC Thunderbolt and the Motorola Atrix 4G that could have all walked away with that prize easily. Don’t get me wrong, the Samsung Vibrant is a great Galaxy S phone and I’m glad they’ve added 4G radios inside, but I’m not sure how it won best of show when it’s a rehash of a series that’s been out for nearly a year.
CTIA put an emphasis on the word “innovation” at this year’s show and I don’t see very much innovative about throwing a 4G radio inside of a phone that’s been out for quite some time. That’s not to take anything away from Samsung, but I think other products deserved the nod more. [via Samsung Hub]
CyanogenMod.com Debuts Device List, Releases Test Version for Samsung Vibrant
![]()

CyanogenMod is rocking the morning wire on this fine Friday. Firstly: they have a new phone portal that will show you a list of their officially supported devices. It’s a portal that’s much appreciated given the difficulty in finding out which devices Team Douche officially supports outside of most popular HTC devices. You can find that portal here.
They’ve also released a test version of CyanogenMod 7 for the Samsung Vibrant the first Galaxy S phone outside of the international version that has received such an honor. We don’t expect a stable release to come about for quite some time – if ever – so don’t download this if you aren’t the type who can’t stand a bug or two. Everything you need can be found right here. Samsung Vibrant’s 2.2 Source Uploaded, Too

First we just got the source code for Sprint’s Samsung EPIC 4G froyo update and official word that it’d be rolling out February 21st, and now we’ve learned that Samsung has also uploaded the source code for T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant Samsung and T-Mobile had already released an update for the Vibrant through Mini Kies, but considering they didn’t push it out over the air, we all considered that unofficial, in a sense. No more talking needs to be done: go grab that source. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in.]
Did the Samsung Vibrant 4G make its way through the FCC?
While we can never be 100 percent sure with these things, what looks like the Samsung Vibrant 4G has just passed through the FCC, ready to hit T-Mobile store shelves soon. We can be sure it’s a Samsung phone, with the correct radio to work on T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks, so all signs point to it being the Vibrant 4G that we’ve been talking about for the past week. With Mobile World Congress coming up soon, and Samsung set to make a big announcement, even I can put a few pieces together. If all the rumors and leaks are true, we could be seeing it come Feb. 23. Samsung Vibrant 4G launching Feb. 23?

The Samsung Vibrant 4G, Samsung’s latest upgrade from the original Samsung Vibrant is expected to launch on Feb 23, according to this leaked image. This release date may come as a bit of a shock to many, considering that the original Vibrant owners are still awaiting an update for their device to Android 2.2. Then again, we don’t really know what the Vibrant 4G is, or what it’s rocking, now do we? [via TmoNews]

Samsung Fascinate 3G+ (Telus) Froyo source released
Samsung has released the Android 2.2 source code for its Fascinate 3G+ for Telus. Anyone interested in poking around Sammy’s code can head over to its Open Source Release Center and enter the model number "SGH-T959D."
It’s always great to see manufacturers contributing back source code (especially since they have to under the open-source rules), and hopefully this will help the development of third-party firmware for other Galaxy S phones. In particular, this release may be of use to anyone working on ROM’s for the Samsung Vibrant, which is very similar to the Fascinate 3G+. [Samsung Open Source Release Center]
