HP TouchPad fire sale spurs online sell out, brick-and-mortars may still carry stock (updated)
It’s the same old story of genius recognized only after death, and thus is the fate of webOS. If you were amongst the opportunistic hordes scavenging the interwebs for last night’s bargain bin $99 HP TouchPad announcement, chances are you’re fresh outta luck. The L.A. Times is reporting widespread online store sell outs for the recently abandoned and heavily discounted 16GB and 32GB slates. While HP’s own site and the biggie online retail outfits, like Circuit City and Walmart, have all but sold out of their web inventory, Amazon’s third party sellers still have the tablets on offer — just at non-discounted prices. Of course, you could always leave the hypnotic glow of your monitor and venture out into the real world where actual, physical stores are purported to have the tabs currently in stock. Update: We’ve been hearing reports that select Best Buy outlets have begun selling their remaining inventory as of this afternoon. Also, it appears RadioShack plans to get in on the discounted fun, as leaked internal memos indicate an impending price cut. If you haven’t had any luck snagging one of HP’s also-ran tabs, now’s your chance.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer goes on sale in US, immediately sells out at Amazon
The US had to wait for its Eee Pad Transformer launch a little longer than the rest of the world, but it’s finally gotten its wish today and consumers’ reaction seems to have been nothing short of voracious. Amazon’s order page for the $400 Android 3.0 tablet appears to have gone from “in stock” to “out of stock” within mere minutes, while Target — the supplier fulfilling orders on behalf of Amazon — also lists the Transformer as presently unavailable. ASUS’ own Where To Buy page leads us to a bunch of dead ends as well, with Best Buy being the only retailer we can currently find with stock in the US. We can’t say for sure whether we’re looking at overwhelming demand or just limited supply, but it’s hard to argue with ASUS’ excellent value proposition here: a 10-inch IPS display, a dual-core SOC and a feature-rich tablet OS all for less than four Benjamins. You’ll just need to be quick on the trigger if you want one.

Nintendo 3DS launches in Japan, populace tears through initial 400,000 unit shipment
You won’t be able to snap one up at your local GameStop for a full month, but the Nintendo 3DS had a solid launch in Japan today, reportedly liquidating nearly its entire initial shipment of 400,000 spiffy stereoscopic gaming handhelds by the end of the day. Some of those sales were to customers waiting in a few lines up to 2,000 persons long, but those lines were exceptions to the norm — several publications note that very few stores actually had any lines to speak of, as most Japanese electronics retailers sold out when the 3DS went on pre-order over a month ago. T-Mobile G2 pre-orders sold out
T-Mobile has announced that the G2 is no longer available for pre-order for existing subscribers on their website. According to T-Mobile, this is due to "overwhelming demand." (Or, as Dallin points out, because Oct. 6 is when it was official to go on sale anyway.) This is a perfect way to wrap up one of the oddest phone launches in recent history — first there was the pre-order debacle many went through before T-Mobile got the website straightened out, then the news that Radio Shack would be selling early, followed by T-Mobile themselves selling the phone a few days early.
If you get one of these in your hands already, or got in on the pre-order and are pacing up and down the driveway waiting for delivery, looks like your timing was great. If there really will be stock issues, who knows how long the wait will be. [T-Mobile] Thanks everyone who sent this in!

Google expects to sell out of remaining stock of Nexus One within 10 days
Google has told the L.A. Times it expects to sell out of its remaining stock of Nexus One phones by the end of July — which comes in about 10 days. Google gave no figures about how many N1s it received in the last shipment, and we’re in no position to guess. Maybe the news that it was taking down its online phone store jacked up the sales rate, or more likely Google didn’t get very many in, but either way you have about 10 days to get what many (including a few of us here) think is one of the best smartphones ever made.
