Motorola wins permanent injunction against Apple’s iCloud in German court (update: products pulled)

There’s another legal brouhaha brewing in Germany, where Motorola today won an injunction against Apple’s iCloud. In a decision handed down from the infamous Mannheim Regional Court this morning, Judge Andreas Voss issued a permanent injunction against Cupertino’s cloud-based service and any devices that use it, following a complaint that Motorola originally filed in April of last year. The two companies, as you may recall, have been going at each other rather aggressively in Germany, where Motorola scored a similar victory , back in November

If you somehow aren’t satisfied with your growing collection of Nintendo , PlayStation , Game Boy Color and steampunk styled cufflinks, Brookstone just might be the Q to your Bond. IBM stores bits on arrays of atoms, shrinks magnetic storage to the scientific limit

IBM’s Almaden Research Center is filled with some of the best and brightest minds in the world, and its researchers just released new findings that detail how just how far IBM has come in the realm of magnetic storage. Andreas Heinrich is leading the team at Big Blue that figured out how to create atomic storage based on the fact that atoms of ferromagnetic material align their spins in one direction — so the ability to control the spin direction is what’s needed to make such minature memory possible. Heinrich and his crew were able to accomplish the trick by supercooling 12 atoms to four degrees kelvin (-452 fahrenheit), and arranging them using an electron microscope in such a away that nonvolatile storage became possible

Toshiba FlashAir wireless LAN SD card hands-on (video)

The first card using the SD association’s Wireless LAN standard is Toshiba’s FlashAir and we’ve just spent some time with it here at CES. It’s much like existing Eye-Fis insofar that it also crams WiFi into a diminutive SD card, but instead of merely being able to join a network, the FlashAir creates its own outright. The 8GB class six card broadcasts an 802.11b/g/n hotspot, replete with its own web server onboard, which means its contents — like say pictures you’ve previously snapped in your camera — can be accessed in a browser by any connected device
