Samsung’s got a 55-inch Super OLED TV of its own, coming in the second half of 2012

We’re seated here at Samsung’s 2012 CES press event , and the company just revealed that it’ll be matching rival LG’s 55-inch OLED TV… when a 55-inch OLED TV of its own. Not surprisingly, the outfit’s trumpeting its terrific color reproduction, the virtual absence of motion blur and face recognition

China to get its first 3D TV channel within weeks

Half a billion TV set owners could soon have the perfect excuse for an upgrade: a new 3D channel that has already started broadcasting on a trial basis and is due to launch officially over the Chinese New Year. Operated by China Central TV and a handful of local stations, it’ll transmit 4.5 hours of free-to-air fuzzy red and green content each day, which can be picked up by anyone with a hi-def set-top box and a 3D TV. They won’t have to watch it on a 71-inch 21:9 panel , but it’ll certainly help

Apple reportedly discussing its ‘vision for the future of TV’ with media execs

We wouldn’t bet the farm on those “Apple is building an HDTV” rumors just yet, but tonight the Wall Street Journal reports the company is still interested invading the living room in a real way, based on “vague” talks with media executives. That vision includes a TV that packs wireless streaming with AirPlay to deliver TV shows and movies as well as technology it’s developed to tie-in DVR storage and iCloud, but also focuses on personalized, synchronized access across other devices including phones and tablets
