NDrive and Android Central giving away 20 NDrive licenses [contest]

NDrive navigation

We all love Google’s turn by turn navigation system, but many times we’re looking for a solution that works off-line.  Enter NDrive — the world navigation system that stores map data on-device, ready to work with no data or WiFi connection.  But off-line maps is only a small portion of what NDrive offers — wait until you see the video after the jump!

The good people at NDrive have reached out and are offering full license and USA maps to 20 lucky Android Central forum members (a $500 total value).  To enter, see the rules and official contest thread in the forums HERE, and after the break is that video overview of NDrive that we promised, check it out!

US Cellular to include TeleNav on Samsung Acclaim [video]

Samsung Accliam with TeleNav

Today is the launch of the Samsung Acclaim on US Cellular, and the nation’s sixth-largest carrier has a treat for everyone coming in to pick one up — the Acclaim (as well as other select handsets), will include Your Navigator Deluxe.  Your Navigator Deluxe is a TeleNav powered turn-by-turn navigation system (very much like SprintNavigator for Sprint smartphones) that includes enhancements like comprehensive business listings and weather conditions.  Many (this author included) prefer TeleNav products over the standard Google navigation because of the small extras like a personal launch page and details about your destination.  In any case, more options is never a bad thing.

Check out a video overview of Your Navigator Deluxe and the full press release after the break. [TeleNav Blog]

Google Maps Navigation adds 11 nations

Today, Google expanded its Google Maps Navigation system to cover 11 more countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland for Android devices running Donut (Android 1.6) and higher. The turn-by-turn directions can be read in the language of your choice and the voice destination search works with the accuracy that we’ve come to expect from Google in French, German, Italian and Spanish for Éclair (Android 2.0/2.1) and up. All of the Google Maps features are enabled in the supported countries, street view, POI search, gas stations, etc. Although Google Maps and Navigation is always a free service, it’s important to remember if you’re traveling, although the Map and Navigation service may be free, the data connection used to run it most certainly is not. Google Maps for Android updated with biking directions, nav shortcut, sharing

It sure is nice when the folks building your operating system also make some of the best applications around.  Proof — Google Maps for Android’s new updates.  Little things make for great software, and the Google maps app is chock full of them.  Today’s update brings biking directions, a direct shortcut to turn by turn navigation in the app drawer, and the coolest new feature is destination sharing.  Enter your destination and you can now share the address with your friends via email or SMS, as well as popular social media sites like Facebook, Buzz or Twitter.  Open your market app and update maps to check out the new features.  Android 1.6+ only.  Sorry Cupcakers.  [via Google Mobile Blog]
