Vlingo co-founder explains data-collection issues
With Carrier IQ and O2′s most recent data-snooping, people’s vigilance about what information cellphones transmit is increasing. Using a Galaxy Note , AndroidPit found that every four minutes, Vlingo’s voice-recognition app was sending a packet of data to an unencrypted server.

Nuance gobbles up Vlingo, yearns to transcribe its own announcement
Apparently, if you can’t (legally) beat them, you buy them. Such is the thinking over at Nuance , who has decided to acquire its competitor and former courtroom dance partner, Vlingo . Should make for some nice additions to the former’s voice recognition tubes — technology which powers everything from Apple’s Siri , Dragon dictation and even various autos .

Samsung Galaxy S II review
If you don’t already know all about the Samsung Galaxy S II, where have you been the past two months? The successor to one of the most popular Android handsets to date carries a burden of expectation almost as sizable as its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. It promises to be thinner, lighter, and faster than the Galaxy S that preceded it, while garnishing Android 2.3.3 with a set of TouchWiz customizations that might actually enhance, rather than hinder, the user experience. As such, the Galaxy S II earns Samsung full marks for ambition, but does this slinky new smartphone live up to its interstellar hype? The answer, as always, can be found after the break.

Vlingo introduces ActionBar and integrates with KAYAK, Fandango and Open Table
We’re no strangers to the many uses of Vlingo around here and we love it when they email us lettings us know about all the new stuff they been working on. As described from within their press release, they’ve introduced a new feature with their latest release called Actionbar:
Vlingo will introduce a new feature called the “ActionBar,” that enables Android users to type or speak commands to do all of the things they would normally do with Vlingo. Vlingo brings the same adaptation and predictive intelligence used for voice recognition to typed commands with the ActionBar, allowing users to initiate actions when it’s not as convenient speak to their phones – like on a noisy bus or quiet conference room. In this release, Vlingo also has integrated with several consumer companies that will allow them to find available hotels, buy movie tickets and make dinner reservations – quickly, easily and safely.
Those companies referred to are KAYAK, Fandango and Open Table to be precise. The latest Vlingo Assistant is now available in the Android Market for devices 2.0 and above. Download and a video of the new offers is after the break.

Vlingo InCar — a complete hands free solution for Android
The Vlingo Corp has announced that Vlingo InCar beta is now available for users on the Sprint network. I don’t even try to hide the fact that I love Vlingo, out of all the voice command/control applications available, it’s the only one that works for me. Now with the InCar beta, I can have the same control over my Evo using my voice, without hitting any icons or buttons. Once you start the new InCar beta version of Vlingo, you can enter complete hands free mode by pressing the Wake-up Command button, then say "Hey Vlingo" to start entering my voice commands. Awesome.
Worth a note here — the new beta of Vlingo InCar is only available on the Market for Sprint subscribers for now, but Vlingo encourages folks on other carriers to go here and express interest in Vlingo InCar beta on their network. Let’s all do that m’kay? There’s a video, the full press release and some more screenshots after the break. [Vlingo]

Vlingo adds Foursquare support, takes ‘shout outs’ to the next level

Ever wish there was just an easier way to check in to the location you are at via Foursquare then to have to open the application and search for it via your devices keyboard? Well, the folks over at Vlingo (see our full review) are always looking to push the envelope on user experience and constantly look for ways to make things easier, and they have done it again. With the recent update to the Vlingo application, users can now use speech to check in to locations, shout out to friends, as well as find out the location of their friends all through some very simple voice commands.
Previously the application supported use of Twitter and Facebook, so the addition of Foursquare is one that will be welcomed by many. Now that checking in is just that much easier, let all your friends know your currently location or shout out to them, just because you can without having to use the devices keyboard. Check after the jump for the full presser and video of the update in action.

Vlingo responds to Google Voice Actions — by making Vlingo for Android free
Vlingo has responded to Google’s release of Voice Actions in an amazing way — by making its $9.99 Android application free. Yes, free, starting today. The folks at Vlingo are the first to applaud Google for the great Voice Actions application, but they also point out that Vlingo offers a bit more — besides being cross platform, they also hook into Twitter and Facebook, and SafeReader to have incoming messages read aloud. Oh, there’s one more thing — Vlingo works with Eclair and Froyo, so no need to wait for that OTA.
Personally, I love Vlingo. Now I love it even more. Hit the break for the download details. [Vlingo]

Vlingo for Android updated to include ‘SuperDialer’ — Super, indeed!
Vlingo has updated its popular Android application, and a new feature called SuperDialer makes a great app even better. What SuperDialer does is allow you to make calls, or searches, or get directions based on what you are looking for, not what’s in your address book. Growing up, I had dreams about how mobile computing would be in the 21st century. While we’re not quite where I had hoped, and I’m not working for Spacely Sprockets, this is a push in the right direction. We’ve got a video, some screenies of my own playing around useful testing, and a press release after the break.
